I study the past, present, and the future.
My name is Samuel de Korte, a historian specializing in Black American soldiers during World War II. This doesn't include just the war, but also the way in which these soldiers are remembered. I write books and articles, as well as give lectures and run digital projects related to this history.

I have an MA degree in Cultural History of Modern Europe from Utrecht University and my book on the 614th Tank Destroyer Battalion was a finalist in the 2022 Army Historical Foundation Distinguished Writing Awards.
In addition to my books, I contributed a chapter to On Contested Shores: The Evolving Role of Amphibious Operations in the History of Warfare (2020), edited by Timothy Heck and B.A. Friedman. The chapter covers the 1574 Siege of Leiden during the Eighty Years' War.
History is my passion! For as long as I've remembered, I've been an avid reader. Besides history, I really love stories. These can be told through a variety of mediums. Indeed, books, but a great story can also be told or visualized through games, movies, graphic novels, or drawings. A particular genre that I enjoy is science-fiction and the promises that technology hold for the future.
If you are interested in interviews, lectures, or consulting on Black military history, feel free to get in touch.
Of course, I'm always open to suggestions, feedback, and comments. If you're interested in writing a review or if you have a great idea for a book, reach out to me!
